Ọmọlará Broom Workshop
On a rare crisp Miami morning, we found ourselves in a secret garden in the middle of the city, Finca Morada. Shooting documentary reels for GreenSpace Miami I found myself at a broom making workshop by Ọmọlará Williams McCallister. Ọ collaborates with people and plants to create immersive installations that support in communities cultivating cultures of collective power and care while navigating the everyday violences of systemic oppression.
Centered amongst the foliage of the gardens, natural material at our fingertips and focusing on cleansing, ancestry and mindfulness, I was ready for the shoot ahead. Blown away by the openness and thoughtfulness put forth through the entire process and I’m truly grateful for being able to be part of such an awesome workshop. Can’t wait to run into you all later on in our life journeys.
Here are a few sampling of some of the student brooms and a group shot that capture our energy at the end of the day!
